An AI workflow for affiliate content: turn product evidence into a useful recommendation

Use a claim ledger, a controlled AI brief, and an editorial review to create affiliate content without inventing tests or experience.

Give AI a useful input

The most valuable input for an affiliate article is often a small set of clear observations. What did you try? Who was it for? Where did it help? What was awkward? Those notes are more useful than a request to write a persuasive review of a product you barely know.

This workflow turns your evidence into a draft you can check. It works with a general-purpose AI assistant; you do not need a collection of subscriptions to begin. Use materials you have permission to share and remove customer information, account identifiers, and other sensitive details.

Build a claim ledger

Create five columns: claim, source, date checked, evidence type, and limitation. Evidence types might include personal observation, official documentation, or an unresolved question. Keep them separate. A vendor saying a task takes five minutes is not the same as you timing it.

For a hypothetical scheduling app, your notes might say: ‘I created a test booking page in 12 minutes using a blank account.’ A separate row might say: ‘The vendor lists calendar integration on its pricing page.’ A third could read: ‘I have not tested conflict handling across two calendars.’ These distinctions belong in the finished recommendation.

Write the decision before the draft

Complete this sentence: ‘This article helps [person] decide whether [product or approach] fits [task and constraint].’ A useful example is a freelance tutor deciding whether a scheduling tool is worth paying for when they arrange only a few sessions a week.

Choose the comparison criteria before looking at affiliate compensation. Setup effort, recurring cost, accessibility, cancellation terms, and the ability to export data may matter more than a feature count. Ask what the reader would need to know to decide against buying as well as for buying.

Use a bounded prompt

Try this prompt: ‘Use only the evidence below to draft a decision guide for [audience]. Separate my observations from vendor claims. Preserve all limitations. Mark unsupported statements CHECK rather than completing them. Include who should use an alternative or buy nothing. Do not invent tests, results, testimonials, prices, or first-person experience. Evidence: [paste notes].’

Then ask for a second output: ‘List each factual claim in the draft beside the source row that supports it.’ Treat that mapping as an editing aid. The model can map a claim incorrectly, so you still need to inspect the source.

Add the work only you can supply

Replace generic descriptions with an original example, an authorized screenshot, or a demonstration of a real task. Explain why the result mattered for the intended reader. If you did not test a capability, say so. If you did not test the product at all, frame the article as a researched comparison rather than a hands-on review.

Google’s published guidance warns against generating many pages without adding user value. Original evidence and a clear reader decision give this workflow a useful purpose; an AI-generated word count does not. There is no guarantee of search visibility from following a checklist.

Repurpose one finding three ways

Take one verified finding and adapt it to a short tutorial, a decision checklist, and a reader email. Each format should contain enough context to stand on its own. A tutorial shows the task; a checklist helps someone evaluate it; an email explains when to use the lesson.

For example, a finding that setup takes several steps could become a screen recording of those steps and a checklist of information to prepare. Do not generate a fake interface image that appears to prove a feature exists. Label conceptual illustrations clearly and use actual product evidence for product claims.

Finish with a release check

Verify the facts, current product details, links, permissions, and affiliate disclosure. Remove any CHECK markers by verifying or deleting the claim. Read the article as someone with a smaller budget than yours: does it still help?
